Introducing Anne Ohri, our Founding Education Advisor
Anne is currently piloting New Harmony's project and curriculum design process after almost 30 years of teaching experience!
What is your field of work?
"I have been an educator since I taught my first Outdoor Education Class at Science School in 1988. Since that time I have taught newborns through seniors in high school in three states. I have a B.A. in English, single subject and multiple subject teaching credentials, and a Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction with a Reading Specialist credential. Throughout my career I have been a classroom teacher, department chair, lead teacher, coach, Literacy Integration Specialist, mentor, and administrator."
Why are you passionate about New Harmony?
"I am passionate about New Harmony because I am passionate about kids. Outdated schools and methods have left students disengaged and uninspired. New Harmony will allow us an opportunity to use methods proven by research to develop accomplished, engaged students who are passionate about their own education and life plan."
Who was your most influential teacher during high school and why?
"Mr. Charles Jack (C.J.) Mertz was the most influential teacher I've had in my life. He was amazing example of a teacher passionate about his field and students' success. Not only did he teach Marine Biology, he was a great teacher of life lessons and the realities of life. I was fortunate enough to call him mentor and friend up until his passing several years ago. His book So You Want to Be a Teacher? is a tool I have used for years to train new teachers."
